WASHINGTON (NWSA) -- Recipes from Mess Management Specialists aboard Navy ships are needed for a cookbook being created by the San Francisco Council of the U. S. Navy League and Time/Life Books.

The San Francisco Culinary Academy will judge the recipes during October Fleet Week '96 in San Francisco. Even though all recipes will be published, the two best -- one from the Atlantic Fleet and one from the Pacific Fleet -- will be highlighted with a photo of the recipe and the winner's ship.

Two entries per ship are allowed and should include: complete recipe with name and how many it serves; chef's name, rank, ship's name and hull number and commanding officer's name and rank.

Entries should be submitted no later than Oct. 1 to: Christine Peterson, 310 Dolan Ave, Mill Valley, CA 94941. Phone: (415) 389-8424 and/or PH/FAX (415) 389-1813.

Profits from the book will go to the Navy League Scholarship Fund and educational projects.
