Major Gen. W. P. T. Hill Memorial Awards

The Secretary of the Navy and the International Food Service Executives Association established the Major General W.P.T. Hill Memorial Awards Program in 1985. The award is designed to improve food service operations and recognize the best general messes in the Marine Corps.

2001 Awardees

Acting Navy Secretary Robert B. Pirie, Jr. recently announced the 2001 winners of the Navy Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Awards and the Marine Corps Major General W.P.T. Hill Memorial Awards for outstanding food service in the Navy and Marine Corps. Formal presentation of the awards will be made during the International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA) conference on Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Anaheim, Calif. 

Hill first place awards:

  • Best mess hall: Mess Hall 620, Marine Corps Recruit Depot/Western Recruiting Region, San Diego, Calif. 

  • Best field mess: 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, U.S. Marine Forces Atlantic, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

  • Best reserve field mess: Headquarters and Service Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Marine Forces Reserve, Marietta, Ga. 

Hill runner-up award:

  • Mess Hall 411, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
