Seabees in Germany

Two other Seabee units, Construction Battalion Maintenance Units 629 and 636, served in Germany:

  • CBMU 629 had five small detachments in Germany. Four of these detachments assisted the U. S. 1st, 3rd and 9th Armies assemble and operate pontoon barges during the crossing of the Rhine River. The fifth detachment, which specialized in telecommunications repair, was attached to the 69th NCB in Bremen.

  • CBMU 636 was formed from the 69th NCB in June 1945 to provide base maintenance in Bremen and Bremerhaven.
